Students began working on an in class project about the colonists' grievances They must create a poster to present to the Mexican government with the biggest issues that are frustrating the colonists. They must explain to the 'authorities' what the problems are, why they frustrating, and how the can be resolved peacefully.

We discussed the Texas Declaration of Independence, in particular the colonists' grievances Students used primary sources to analyze the real reason why the Texans began fighting the revolution DUE: 11/17 Classwork 'Rising Tensions in Texas' Reading Notes

All periods were assigned the Explorers project. DUE November 2 Periods 1,3,5,7: Students are required to complete a 10 (box) cartoon strip on explorers coming to the Americas and to Texas Periods 2 & 6: Students must write a news story on 4 explorers (Cabeza de Vaca, Coronado, La Salle, Pineda)

All classes practiced analyzing short reading passages and maps. We also reviewed the test. Each class reviewed different questions based on each class' individual needs October 14

Periods 1 & 5: We covered Cortes. Students took cornell notes on Cortes conquering the Aztecs and then analyzed a Cortes quote (See October 12 for those handouts). Then students began reading multiple sources to try and figure out how Cortes was able to defeat the Aztecs Periods 2,3,6,7: Students began learning about Cabeza de Vaca. We read and answered questions about a general CdV intro reading. Then we began working on the Cabeza DBQs
October 12
Periods 1 & 5: We covered Columbus. We completed the Columbus SOAPS/OPTIC (See October 9). Students had to make an argument that Columbus was both a hero and a villain. NOTE: There are many different opinions in the Columbus worksheets. The point of the worksheets is not to try and make Columbus a hero or a villain. The goal of the exercise is to have the students understand their are often many sides to history, and ALL of them should be considered before a decision is made, or an opinion formed. Periods 2,3,6,7: We completed the Columbus SOAPS/OPTIC (See October 9). Students took cornell notes on Cortes conquering the Aztecs. Then students completed a SOAPS on Cortes' arrival in Tenochtitlan. DUE: Periods 1,3,5,7: Native American Projects
